Kisite-Mpunguti

Kenya's southernmost marine park — 8km from Shimoni pier

The Reef at Your Door

Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park is one of Kenya’s best-preserved coral ecosystems. Established in 1978, it covers 39 square kilometres of protected ocean — from shallow reef lagoons to deeper channels where dolphins ride the current.

From Kasa Pomboo, the journey takes 15 minutes by wooden dhow or speedboat from Shimoni pier. The same dolphins that pass the hotel at dawn can often be found at the park entrance.

We can arrange day trips for guests, including snorkelling equipment, a park guide, and lunch on Wasini Island. Talk to reception to book.

What You'll Find at Kisite

Indo-Pacific Dolphins

Spinner and bottlenose dolphins are resident in Shimoni Channel. Morning trips almost always encounter pods — sometimes hundreds strong.

Coral Reef

The reef systems at Kisite are among the least-disturbed in Kenya. Corals grow to three metres in places. Visibility is typically 15–20m.

Sea Turtles

Green and hawksbill turtles are regularly spotted. The park is a key nesting site — turtles are frequently seen feeding on seagrass beds.

Wasini Island

A small, car-free island adjacent to the park. Traditional fishing community, a coral garden walk, and famous seafood lunches at local restaurants.

Book a Day Trip

We arrange full-day snorkelling excursions to Kisite for hotel guests. Departure is from Shimoni pier at 08:30 (weather permitting). Includes snorkelling gear, a KWS-certified guide, and the option of a seafood lunch on Wasini. WhatsApp us to check availability and pricing.
