Our Story

A clifffront home — built slowly, with intention

How Kasa Pomboo Began

Kasa Pomboo sits on a limestone cliff above Shimoni Channel — a narrow passage of the Indian Ocean where dolphins gather and dhows drift past at dawn. It began not as a hotel project, but as a personal discovery of one of Kenya’s most overlooked coastlines.

Shimoni is 90 kilometres south of Mombasa, at the tip of a small peninsula. It is the kind of place that still feels undiscovered: a working fishing village, a colonial-era pier, caves with their own history, and water so clear you can see the reef from the cliff.

The property was built slowly — local stone, open terraces, rooms positioned to face the channel. The goal was simple: a place to stay that felt like it belonged here.

Shimoni — The Village

One of Kenya's last quiet coastlines

Shimoni Channel

Dolphins pass through most mornings. The channel sits between the peninsula and Wasini Island — a 15-minute boat ride to the reef.

Kisite-Mpunguti

Kenya’s southernmost marine park, 8km offshore. Pristine coral, turtles, and some of the best snorkelling on the coast.

The Caves

Shimoni’s limestone caves were used during the Arab slave trade. A sobering and important piece of coastal history, open to visitors.

How We Do Things

We are a small property. Twelve rooms, one restaurant, one pool. Small enough to know each guest by name, large enough to give you space when you want it.

Locally Sourced

Our kitchen uses fish from Shimoni’s morning market and produce from nearby farms. The menu changes with what’s fresh.

Small & Personal

We keep the property intentionally small. No conference wings, no package tours. Each room is booked individually.

Community First

Most of our team is from Shimoni. We work with local guides, boat operators, and craftspeople — keeping tourism income in the village.

Come and See for Yourself

The channel, the reef, the morning light. It’s one of those places you have to experience to understand.
